Nvidia to Unlaunch RTX 4080 12GB

Nvidia to Unlaunch RTX 4080 12GB

Nvidia RTX 40-series graphics cards that were recently launched received mixed reception from consumers. Some were shooting the graphics cards down because of their launch prices. While some have more pressing concerns, as they noticed the two versions of the RTX 4080.

As we’ve seen in their past launches, Nvidia tends to introduce three graphics cards at launch. We get the flagship xx90, enthusiast xx80, and the mainstream xx70 graphics cards. However, in this generation we get two variants of the RTX 4080 graphics card, a 16GB variant and a 12GB variant. Consumers, especially those who eagerly waited for the 40-series, pointed that the 12GB variant should’ve been the mainstream variant RTX xx70. This is mainly due to the large difference between the two variants. The difference isn’t just VRAM capacity, but also the amount of CUDA cores and memory bus.

The RTX 4080 12GB is a fantastic graphics card, but it’s not named right. Having two GPUs with the 4080 designation is confusing.

So, we’re pressing the “unlaunch” button on the 4080 12GB. The RTX 4080 16GB is amazing and on track to delight gamers everywhere on November 16th.

If the lines around the block and enthusiasm for the 4090 is any indication, the reception for the 4080 will be awesome.

In light of the said concern, Nvidia issues a statement that they’ll be unlaunching the RTX 4080 12GB graphics card. You can learn more about the statement here. There is still no news if the 4080 12GB variant would be renamed/relaunched as the RTX 40-series’ mainstream offering.
