Lenovo LOQ 15IRX9 Laptop Review

Lenovo LOQ 15IRX9 Laptop Review

October 26, 2024 0 By Dave Perry

No clue why Lenovo has two lineups for its gaming laptops, namely Legion and LOQ, and at this point, I’m too afraid to ask. But eh, regardless of the case, we’re here to take a look at the Lenovo LOQ 15 15IRX9 – a 15-inch gaming laptop that looks and feels sturdy, performs great, and is quite compact. How does it fare? Let’s find out.

UNBOXING

Lenovo keeps it simple with the LOQ 15’s packaging. It arrives in a carton box with all the usuals printed around it. Once you take a look inside, there’s the LOQ 15 itself together with the charger encased in some styrofoam. Nothing really noteworthy when it comes to that. Just remember to check with your local dealers what they’re bundling it as they usually do when it comes to products in this range. DataBlitz throws in an armored gaming backpack and Microsoft Home and Office 2021.

Lenovo LOQ 15IRX9 DESIGN

Loving the design here. Lenovo keeps it simple and straightforward and a bit minimalist. More of a preference, but the angular design here is right at home with the company’s design language, and more of a gaming-centric ThinkPad. The LOQ logo is at the top left, with Lenovo’s logo at the bottom right.

Ports are somewhat limited – there’s a USB 3.2 Gen 1 on the right alongside the audio jack and an E-shutter button, plus a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 that functions as a DisplayPort 1.4 + 140W PD. There’s really nothing on the left side here, which could have been better allocated for more USB ports. There’s plenty going on at the back with two USB 3.2 Gen 1 on opposite ends, and HDMI 2.1 port, LAN, and Power-in.

There’s also a webcam atop the 15.6-inch FHD display, which can be blocked manually by the E-shutter button. The bezels are quite thin here, which is why it’s able to achieve its compact form factor. There’s a full size keyboard here backlit with 4-zone RGB lighting, and you can customize it to your preference through Lenovo’s Spectrum software inside Lenovo Vantage.

What I really find great here is Lenovo’s touch on the power button. It resembles the O on the LOQ logo. It’s a small thing, but touches like this add some flair to the products and should be commended.

Lenovo LOQ 15IRX9 DISPLAY

As mentioned, there’s a 15.6-inch FHD display here with 144Hz refresh rate. Pretty much standard for esports titles nowadays, and that should get you covered if you’re planning to use this for VALORANT, Overwatch 2, or CSGO.  It also features 100% sRGB coverage, and there’s NVIDIA G-SYNC to eliminate screen tearing and stuttering.

Lenovo LOQ 15IRX9 PERFORMANCE

This version of the LOQ 15 features an Intel Core i7-14700HX and a GeForce RTX 4060 with 16GB of RAM, and of course, we’ll be putting it to the test to see how it fares. There’s also 1TB of SK hynix SSD here. Our test features both synthetic and real world benchmarks for both gaming and productivity.

Lenovo LOQ 15IRX9 PRICING

Now, pricing somewhat varies, but we’ve seen the Lenovo LOQ 15 15IRX9 priced for around PHP88,495.00 with the same specs although just half the storage capacity. DataBlitz also bundles this with an armored gaming backpack and MS Office Home & Student 2021 (best make sure to check what bundles are offered in different stores to maximize value).

VERDICT

As a gaming laptop, it will do well in modern titles with a little boost on DLSS that you can utilize and some tweaks on settings if you do find it lacking. Of course, it can also manage on content creation workloads if you’re going that route. The full-sized keyboard is nice and compact, with a flair for RGB to boot, and let’s not forget the 15.6-inch display with 144Hz refresh rate and G-SYNC.

So if you’re looking for a gaming laptop that can play and work, the LOQ 15IRX9 is easily a great choice for powering through anything whether it’s esports titles or content creation.
