Nvidia Launches RTX 3070, RTX 3080, and RTX 3090; Pricing and Availability Announced

Nvidia, one of the leading GPU technology manufacturers, unveiled its newest RTX graphics cards, the RTX 3070, RTX 3080, and RTX 3090.

Under the codename ‘Ampere,’ the new Nvidia graphics cards will support PCIe Gen 4 out of the box and will feature new technologies such as RTX IO that allows the GPU to directly stream assets from the storage drive; RTX Reflex, which reduces system latency and enables a much responsive gaming experience; and RTX Broadcast that leverages on the AI technology of Nvidia to enable AI-assisted features such as locking in on a subject, background noise cancellation, and background blur, or a total background change without the need of a green screen. Additionally, with the Ampere graphics card’s native HDMI 2.1 and updated DLSS technology, 4K high refresh rate, and 8K gaming can be easily achieved.

The Ampere graphics cards are expected to perform really well than the previous generation with up to 2x performance uplift, which seems to be possible, as the Nvidia RTX 3090 boasts a boost clock of 1.70 GHz and a whopping 10,496 Cuda Cores and 24GB of GDDR6X memory; the Nvidia RTX 3080 runs at 1.71 GHz and has 8,704 Cuda Cores and 10GB of GDDR6X memory; and the Nvidia RTX 3070 boosts at 1.73 GHz and has 5,888 Cuda Cores and 8GB of GDDR6 memory. 

The new Ampere graphics cards feature a new Founder’s Edition cooling system design. Nvidia introduces a new way of cooling in the RTX 3000 series by featuring a push and pull fan configuration, which theoretically dissipates heat much faster than the previous iteration. What happens is, the left fan pushes the accumulated heat of the fin stack out to the rear vents, while the right fan pulls in air from the chassis and pushing it upwards for the rear exhaust fans to draw it.

On the other hand, the new RTX 3000 series PCB is much smaller compared to the previous generation’s, but it didn’t hinder Nvidia from putting an 18-phased power delivery and an NVLink into the Ampere graphics cards.

Nvidia has also put to rest all the pricing rumors and estimations. They revealed that the Nvidia RTX 3080 will have a launch price similar to the previous generation at $699 USD, and the Nvidia RTX 3070 will have a launch price of $499 USD, while the big Nvidia RTX 3090 will see a $1499 USD launch price. The RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 will be available on September 24, 2020, and September 17, 2020, respectively. The RTX 3070, on the other hand, will be available in October.
